“Why are so many kids struggling to read?”
While working in international schools as a curriculum designer, we noticed a pattern.
Many of the children entering Grade 1 could not read. Some of them had memorized words on sight, but could not read new words. Others had just enrolled in school for the first time at age 5. They had never been to preschool or kindergarten. While the schools had an EAL / ESL program, it was too easy for learners to get lost in the crowd.
What kids needed was targeted, foundational phonics and basic words.
So we designed Readable Club
Readable Club is designed to bridge the structural gap.
Early literacy foundations — phonemic awareness, decoding, print concepts — are often assumed, but not always present. When they’re missing, everything else becomes harder: comprehension, written expression, confidence, and even behaviour in class.
By joining Readable, we work on building strong foundations slowly but surely. This way, students can continue going to school while receiving additional support to reach their learning goals.
Level 1: Basic – Phonics
In Level 1, children learn the basic sounds of English. They learn letter sounds (phonics), how to recognize letters, and how to say the sounds correctly. Children practice listening, speaking, and matching sounds to letters. They also start blending sounds to read simple words. This level helps children build a strong foundation for reading and is suitable for beginners or children who did not learn phonics before.
Level 2: Reading
In Level 2, children use their phonics skills to read words and short sentences. They learn common sound patterns, simple spelling rules, and important sight words. Children practice reading slowly and clearly, with understanding. Lessons focus on reading confidence, correct pronunciation, and basic comprehension. This level helps children become more independent readers.
